Russian Project 971U Schuka-B nuclear attack submarine K-152 Nerpa took the sea to pass subsequent trials and for training of Indian crew, reports RIA Novosti referring to representative of Amur Shipyard. According to the source, the sub has not been leased to Indian Navy yet; that will happen later. The information of Amur Shipyard was confirmed by Pacific Fleet HQ.

It was previously reported that the Russian sub which was commissioned on Dec 28, 2009 left the base at the Far East and headed for Indian coast where she will serve for 10 years. The corresponding $650 mln contract was tied with Indian Navy where the sub is supposed to bear the name of Chakra. She will be used in training purposes by Indian crews who afterwards will serve in Indian-made submarine.

K-152 is a 3rd generation submarine with surface displacement of 8,140 tons, submerged displacement of 12,770 tons, max speed of 30 knots, test depth of 600 meters. The sub is armed with four 533-mm and four 650-mm torpedo tubes.
