"Generally, Ukraine and Russia possess huge potential to implement joint shipbuilding project", said MP Anatoly Kinakh, president of Ukrainian Guild of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the head of presidential commission on defense industry development.

"Chernomorsky Shipyard has unique capabilities to build aircraft carriers. I think this issue is topical not only for Russia but also for China which presently creates its aircraft-carrying fleet. One of the options is establishment of transnational shipbuilding companies", he said.

Answering the question whether the possible sale of incomplete Project 1164 guided missile cruiser Ukraina to China was discussed during the visit of Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovich to China, A. Kinakh answered in the negative.

"This issue was not discussed during the meeting. Considering actual agreements, Ukraine may sell this ship only in coordination with Russia. Besides, transfer of such powerful warship to another country can disrupt the balance of strength in any region. Therefore, the issue of the incomplete cruiser is very problematic", underlined the MP.
