Supply vessels division of Leningrad Naval Base's auxiliary fleet arranged festivities associated with its 55th anniversary.
Independent division of auxiliary vessels was established in Kronshtadt naval fort on Aug 30, 1955 by the decree of Navy Main HQ. The division contained 14 vessels including legendary icebreaker
Volynets, transport ship
Shakhter, harbor icebreaker
Tazuya, a schooner, a cutter, and tugs.
Nowadays the division has about 20 supply vessels; among them are icebreakers
Buran and
Purga, mooring craft
KIL-1, cable layer
Nepriadva, tanker
Sosva, transport ship
Indigirka etc.
Trough five and a half decades, the division have covered thousands miles, towed and piloted hundreds ships and submarines, sometimes in severe ice conditions. The division's personnel provided supplies for hundreds artillery firings, sea cruises, transported tens of thousands tons cargo.
The jubilee parade and meeting were attended by veterans and division ex-commanders. Commander of Leningrad Naval Base's auxiliary fleet Valery Zatulivetrov congratulated the division's personnel. Best specialists were awarded with grateful letters and souvenirs.
