Pacific Fleet (PF) naval aircraft Il-38 was dispatched to Pacific Ocean on a signal of unidentified radio distress beacon, although failed to detect a distressed vessel, reported RIA Novosti citing Capt 1 rank Roman Martov, PF press secretary.

Each vessel taking the sea must have a radio distress beacon on board. In case of contingency like a shipwreck, beacon starts to transmit SOS signals.

"Il-38 departed from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski had detected a beacon's signal at 51 grad north, 162 grad east, which is 170 miles eastward the capital city of Kamchatka", said the interviewee.

According to him, no vessels in distress were found there. Coordinates were sent to the State Maritime Rescue Center, added Martov.
