Fifth Pacific Fleet (PF) task force along with attached marine unit will leave Vladivostok on Wednesday and head for the Gulf of Aden to attend UN anti-piracy operation, reported Tuesday RIA Novosti referring to Capt 1 rank Roman Martov, spokesman for PF Commander.

"The task force consists of large ASW ship Admiral Vinogradov, sea-going salvage tug, and tanker Pechenga with freshwater and fuel resources. In autumn 2008 Admiral Vinogradov was the first PF warship dispatched to the Gulf of Aden where the counter-piracy mission takes place", specified the interviewee.

According to him, marines have passed a long-term special training which is based on experience acquired by previous PF "black berets" units in the Gulf of Aden. All marines have mastered hand-to-hand fighting, knife-throwing, and shooting.

The officer reminded that all four previous PF task forces have worthily performed their duties in the Gulf of Aden. PF Command received dozens of grateful letters and telegrams from shipmasters and shipowners. Those Pacific mariners who distinguished themselves in anti-piracy activities were decorated with governmental awards.
