Russian marine corps [naval infantry] was founded 305 years ago. Peter the Great issued a decree on Nov 27(16), 1705 to establish first Russian "regiment of naval soldiers". Since that time black berets have become a symbol of courage, fearlessness, and bravery.
Marines have written many glorious pages in chronicles of Russian history and are rightfully considered elite of our armed forces. Highest military excellence, selfless patriotism, might and fortitude are the natural essence of everyone who serves in Russian naval infantry. Present-day marines preserve and strengthen traditions of centuries-long history of Russian Army and Navy.
Pacific Fleet (PF) has two marine divisions – in Primorsky Krai and Kamchatka. They are participants of all military exercises held in the fleet.
Only since Dec 2008 PF marines have participated in four anti-piracy missions near the Horn of Africa; even now they are among crews of PF warships heading for Somali coast.
Parade and solemn meeting will take place in Vladivostok on Nov 27 at the Memorial to Marines. PF servicemen, top-ranking officers and veterans, representatives of public organizations and patriotic clubs, officials of Vladivostok administration will attend the event. Visitors of the festivity will watch a battle show presenting combat capabilities of Russian marines, exhibition of arms and equipment; veterans will be feasted on "naval shrapnel".
