Caspian Flotilla's (CF) coastal defense missile battalion armed with Uran class antiship missiles will be deployed in Dagestan, reports Interfax.

Kaspiysk will be the main basing site of the battalion; additional positions for coastal defense missile system Bal will be engineered near Izerbash. Deployment of antiship missiles is conducted under Caspian Flotilla Re-equipment Program.

It should be noted that the flotilla already has analogous antiship missiles – CF flagship Tatarstan is also armed with Uran missiles.

All missile boats were previously transferred from Astrakhan to Dagestan in order to establish a task force of missile ships.

Caspian Flotilla consists of 106th brigade (based in Makhachkala) and 73rd brigade (based in Astrakhan), and headed by Rear Admiral Sergei Alekminsky.
