Corvette Boiky built for Russian Navy to be launched in April 18.02.2011

Project 20380 corvette Boiky will be launched on Apr 14, reported ITAR-TASS citing Andrei Fomichev, director general of Severnaya Verf shipyard.

According to him, the shipyard's specialists have mastered serial production of corvettes. Russian Navy's demand is somewhat 30 ships of this class. First serial corvette – Soobrazitelny – will be commissioned this summer. Boiky is the second serial corvette of the project.

Project 20380 implies construction of Russian littoral zone multipurpose corvettes. It was developed for Russian Navy by Almaz Central Maritime Design Bureau in St. Petersburg. Ships of this project serve for antiship and antisubmarine defenses, and gunfire support of landing operations. Their displacement is 2,200 tons, length is 104 meters, beam is 13 meters, operational range is 3,500 miles, crew (including helicopter service group) is 100 men.
