Black Sea Fleet and Airborne Troops hold joint drills near Novorossiysk 07.04.2011

Over 1,500 airborne troopers and about 100 combat vehicles take part in tactical exercise along with Black Sea Fleet warships, said representative of Russian defense ministry Col Alexander Cherednik at the press-conference.

He underlined that 108th Guard Airborne Regiment (7th Airborne Division) conducts exercise near Novorossiysk along with Black Sea Fleet (BSF) ships.

"On Wednesday about 30 amphibious vehicles arrived on board BSF large landing ships and landed on assigned seashore area next to Rayevsky Range near Novorossiysk", said Cherednik.

He added that the drills would last till Apr 8. Recon company parachuted from Il-76 aircraft to Rayevsky Range on Thursday.

"The jumps were postponed to Thursday because of bad weather conditions", said the defense ministry's official.

Besides, two battalions conducted day-time drill battle in the mountains on Wednesday and night-time fire drills on Thursday.
