First patrol in the current navigation season triumphantly left Astrakhanovka frontier station on May 5. Frontiersmen have been preparing for that day all winter long, refreshed theoretical knowledge, taking exercises, repairing and testing equipment.

The first crew to open the season was handed traditional piglet roast. It came to the crew of patrol ship PSKR-188 which is to start a 2-week patrol.

Formerly, crews even compete for this right, but now there are no draftees in frontier service, and professionals do not arrange competitions.

Speaking of equipment, 4 new patrol boats had been received last year and are ready for coming navigation season.

"These boats accelerate up to 70 kph and are basically capable to detain any vessel trying to violate Russian border in Amur River", said the head of Amur regional department of Russian FSB Frontier Service Sergei Bondarev. "We expect same amount of new boats to be delivered soon", he added.
