Black Sea Fleet to hold joint exercise with NATO 12.05.2011

Black Sea Fleet (BSF) diesel submarine Alrosa and rescue ships are going to participate in search-and-rescue exercise along with NATO members.

The largest rescue exercise Bold Monarch held once in three years by Allied forces and NATO partners will be conducted since May 30 till June 10 in the Mediterranean Sea near Cartagena, Spain.

Surface ships, submarines, and rescue teams from 20 NATO members and partner countries will participate in the exercise, including the US, Russia, Sweden, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, France, Norway, Greece, and Turkey. The objective is to improve international cooperation in search and rescue of distressed submarine crews. Russian Navy will participate in this exercise for the first time and dispatched BSF diesel electric submarine Alrosa.

On May 10 BSF mooring lighter KIL-158 headed for the Mediterranean Sea to take part in the exercise; on May 11 – BSF rescue ship Epron; and on May 12 – diesel sub Alrosa along with salvage tug Shakhter.
