JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) took part in 2nd International Forum "Russian Maritime Industry" on May 18, 2011.
USC represented the exhibition pavilion under the motto "Building fleet for strong country".
During the plenary meeting held at the forum's opening, president of USC Roman Trotsenko presented the report "Russian Shipbuilding Development Prospects: USC's Role" and told in details about the key project in Russian shipbuilding - new shipyard at Kotlin Island, St. Petersburg.
Trotsenko told about positions of Russian shipbuilding industry in the global market and emphasized the corporation had no plans to compete with China and South Korea in the area of standard large-capacity tankers and bulkers. USC will primarily build special-purpose and technically sophisticated vessels – ice class, shelf exploration, supply, research, and fishing ships. In this connection, USC is interested in modernization of its design bureaus.
Joint ventures with large western companies hold special place in USC's development, including construction of new shipyards. There are three main projects –
Zvezda D.S.M.E,
Vostok-Raffles, and a shipyard planned to be constructed at Kotlin Island in 2017. According to the corporation's plans, basic phase of construction will be conducted in 2013-2015 and the shipyard is to be completed in 2017. The Kotlin shipyard's metal production output will make 120,000 tons per year.
The Kotlin shipyard construction directorate was established late in 2010 within the USC structure. General objective is to withdraw capacities of
Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard from historical part of St. Petersburg and to build new advanced shipyard. According to business plan, annual income would make RUR 38 bln; the available 250-ha area it is planned to offer 6,500 work vacancies. Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko and all local authorities actively support construction of the new yard JSC
Admiralteyskie Verfi to be transferred to Kotlin Island.
