Russian ships arrived in the Crete Island, Greece 27.05.2011

Russian Navy's task unit consisting of Northern Fleet (NF) large ASW ship Severomorsk, Baltic Fleet (BF) tanker Yelnya, and Black Sea Fleet (BSF) sea-going tug MB-304 arrived in Souda port (Crete Island) on May 25 to pay formal visit.

The visit will last till May 29; afterwards, the unit will continue the cruise with the view to pass the Suez Canal and reach the Gulf of Aden in the first half of June.

Having arrived in the Gulf of Aden, the Russian unit will secure civil shipping in accordance with the plan of regular presence of Russian warships near the Horn of Africa and in the Gulf of Aden.

Earlier on, in May 17-19 large ASW ship Severomorsk paid underway call at the port of Lisbon (Portugal).
