Northern Fleet (NF) large ASW ship Severomorsk started securing civil shipping in the Gulf of Aden on June 17.

The NF warship will escort convoys with Russian and foreign commercial vessels through the Gulf of Aden to Arabian and Red seas.

The convoy formed today includes seven merchant ships flying flags of Norway, Japan, Malta, Liberia, Tuvalu, and Antigua and Barbuda.

NF mariners have accumulated sufficient experience in anti-piracy and protection of civil shipping. These tasks had been successfully accomplished in this region by other NF ships, including nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky, large ASW ships Admiral Chabanenko and Admiral Levchenko.
