Delegation of People's Liberation Army of China (PLAC) headed by Chief of General Staff Gen. Col. Chen Bingde visited Northern Fleet (NF) on Aug 6. This visit was held under international military cooperation and relations development program.

Gen. Col. Chen Bingde met with NF Commander Vice Admiral Vladimir Korolev. The courtesy meeting was arranged in Northern Fleet HQ. Officers greet each other and exchange views on perspective military cooperation.

Russian and Chinese navies have plenty of contact points. NF ships as well as world's leading sea powers including China perform shipping security missions in the Gulf of Aden on the permanent basis. Chinese and Russian mariners effectively cooperate in that region for the sake of global community.

Chinese delegations have visited Russia's Northern Fleet many times under military technical cooperation program. Last November Chinese Navy Commander ADM Wu Shengli paid a visit to Northern Fleet, but the delegation led by Chief of General Staff visited Russia for the first time.

"We attach great importance to development of international cooperation with foreign navies, including Chinese one", emphasized NF Commander talking with the top-ranking guest.

After the protocol meeting, the Chinese delegation was invited to aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov. Guests were shown aircraft takeoff/landing support systems, navigation bridge and air-traffic control tower. Then they watched concert of NF Song & Dance Company arranged in the hangar.

During the visit, Chinese delegation boarded nuclear-powered attack submarine Pantera.

Chief of Chinese General Staff finished his visit to Northern Fleet on Aug 7.
