Backlog of Russian aircraft corporation RSK MiG exceeds $4 bln, reports RIA Novosti referring to the company's director general Sergei Korotkov. "Speaking of world market position, our products are in steady demand", pointed out the MiG director, having added that the number of orders could increase in prospect.
Presently, RSK MiG executes several contracts for combat aircraft. In particular, in May 2011 Indian Navy received five MiG-29K/KUB fighters out of 16 ordered to the total sum of $1.6 bln. In March 2010, MiG and Indian defense ministry tied a $1.5 bln contract for other 29 fighters MiG-29K.
Indian military is supposed to receive another 5-aircraft parcel till the current year is over. Besides, talks on delivery of 26 fighters MiG-29K to Russian Navy are in closing phase. The sum of potential contract is not reported so far.
According to Korotkov, MiG plans to enlarge its backlog by orders for land-based version MiG-29K/KUB, "because many our traditional customers are to renew their obsolete park".
As was reported earlier, RSK MiG would shut down production of MiG-29 base version in Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, and Lukhovitsy. The production will be stopped after MiG-29B/UB/SE fighters are delivered to Myanmar. Then the corporation will re-orient to modernized platforms – MiG-29K, MiG-29KUB, MiG-29M1, MiG-29M2, and MiG-35.
