Delegation of Russia's Eastern Military District visited North Korea to talk on possible joint search-and-rescue and humanitarian exercises, reported Lt Col Igor Murginov, press secretary of Eastern Military District Commander on Aug 30.

"Also, the parties conducted consultations on resumption and further development of military and naval cooperation between the two countries, including exchange of friendly calls of warships", he said.

The Russian delegation headed by Eastern Military District Commander Admiral Sidenko met with Chief of General Staff of Korean People's Army Vice Marshal Ri Yong-ho and discussed all pre-scheduled issues. In addition, Russian officers visited North Korean infantry brigade.

Earlier on, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il paid a visit to Russia. Meeting with president Medvedev, he said DPRK was ready to resume six-sided talks on nuclear problems without any preconditions, said Medvedev's press secretary Natalia Timakova.
