Mikhail Voitenko: Donets Collided With Underwater Object

Fishing seiner Donets collided with underwater object invisible for the ship's technical aids, told chief editor of online Maritime Bulletin Mikhail Voitenko to Vzglyad newspaper prior to the incident.

According to Russian Maritime Rescue Service, fishing seiner Donets collided with underwater object visually and technically undetected on Sept 20 at 6.10 (Moscow time) off the Avachinskaya Harbor passing-by with trawler Kormchiy and heading for mooring quay.

Preliminary inquiry into the incident proved the version that fishing seiner Donets collided with Russian Navy's submarine, reports Russian Maritime Rescue Service. As a result of the incident, no water pollution and obstacles for navigation were revealed. According to Russian Maritime Rescue Service, there was no wind and clear night visibility when the navigation incident happened.

Fishing seiner Donets (IMO 7630098) was built in 1976; displacement is 321 tons; shipowner is JSC Rybnoye (Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski).
