In March 2012 Sevmash shipyard will start construction of two diesel electric submarines for Russian Navy, said the shipyard's deputy director general Mikhail Budnichenko in the interview to Korabel newspaper. According to him, "pre-contractual negotiations are in progress, manufacturing preparations will start in January".

As for Budnichenko, "Rosoboronexport along with Sevmash holds talks with potential foreign customers as of Project 636 diesel subs".

"Sevmash shipbuilders had distinguished themselves while construction of such subs, so I think, we're ready for such contracts. For sure, diesel subs will be built at our yard. We're preparing 42nd workshop for that", emphasized Budnichenko.

Speaking about other programs, he pointed out that "our priority goal is to deliver SSBN Yury Dolgoruky in December, and then we'll face great prospect to kick off batch production of Borei class. We're working on that now. Trials of SSBN Alexander Nevsky are in good progress, SSBN Vladimir Monomakh is at high completeness level as well. Besides, lead Yasen-class submarine Severodvinsk also achieved good results at sea trials".

Answering the question about the Indian contract, Budnichenko said that "retrofitting of the aircraft carrier for Indian Navy goes on effectively and draws to a close. Although we postponed sea trials from November to May by approbation of Indian partners, I'm sure the ship's delivery deadline – December 2012 – won't change".
