"We must understand actions of each country. Today we have settled many issues we and NATO partners had", Makarov said.

"We regard with favor the prospect of long-term planning in military cooperation. In this context, we have adopted the NRC 'road map' for basic lines of cooperation, i.e. logistic support, countering sea piracy and terrorism, search and rescue at sea, military-academic exchanges, missile defenses", pointed out the head of Russian General Staff.

"Missile defense issue is still the main sticking point. Prospects of our further cooperation will primarily depend on how we resolve this problem", emphasized the general.

"We believe the key objectives of cooperation between Russia and NATO is shaping of new confidence level in the area of military security, widening of contacts, and joint response on challenges proceeding from out of Europe. There is an array of such threats. These points are the most important elements of our further military cooperation", added Makarov.
