Capt 1 rank Oleg Zhurayev was appointed commander of Baltic Fleet (BF) Leningrad Naval Base by presidential decree issued on Dec 22, 2011.
BF Deputy Commander Vice Admiral Viktor Kravchuk introduced the new commander to the base officers on Jan 23, 2012 in Kronshtadt Officers' Club.
Prior to the appointment, Zhurayev was holding the position of BF Baltiysk Naval Base Deputy Commander.
Rear Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov who previously headed Leningrad Naval Base was appointed Black Sea Fleet Commander in June 2011.
Curriculum Vitae
Oleg V. Zhurayev was born on Dec 14, 1963 in Mary, Turkmenian Soviet Republic.
In 1986 he graduated from Kaliningrad Naval College and was posted battery commander on a Pacific Fleet's large ASW ship.
Three years later he was promoted to missile officer of an escort ship, and after 1.5 years he took the same position on a large ASW ship. In 1994, he became executive officer on a large ASW ship.
In 1999 he graduated from the Kuznetsov Naval Academy.
Since 1999 till 2003 he commanded Pacific Fleet large ASW ships
Admiral Spiridonov and
Admiral Vinogradov.
Then he served as executive officer of landing ship brigade, and since 2004 – commander of landing ship brigade. Since 2007 till 2008 he held the post of Caspian Flotilla Deputy Commander.
In 2010 he graduated from the General Staff Military Academy.
Since 2010 till Dec 2011 he occupied the post of Baltiysk Naval Base Deputy Commander.
Zhurayev is appointed BF Leningrad Naval Base Commander by presidential decree issued on Dec 22, 2011.
