Russia will postpone utilization of third-generation nuclear submarines, vice premier Dmitry Rogozin told reporters.
"Most effective projects will undergo two interim overhauls. Lifetime of those subs will be prolonged up to 30-35 years instead of standard 25", Rogozin said.
He pointed out that Akula-class strategic subs would be modernized. In particular, it is planned to upgrade their electronics and armament every 7 years.
As for Rogozin, that will help to gain time until 2020 when all eight Borei-class submarines would be put in service.
Rogozin added that it was planned to draw out and adopt the military shipbuilding development program for the next 30 years.
He also said he would hold a meeting in summer to discuss development of Pacific Fleet, and in the fall – Baltic Fleet prospects.
