Russo-Belarusian patriotic action "Homeland of Naval Heroes" will take place on March 17 in Smolensk under the Strong Marine Brotherhood international project. The action is associated with the Submariners' Day and dedicated to Heroes of Soviet Union Vice Admiral Egor Tomko and Capt 1 rank Samuil Bogorad.

According to Smolensk regional administration, two delegations from Vitebsk (Belarus) and St. Petersburg will visit the town that day. Participants will lay wreaths at the Eternal Light, pay honors to Hero of Soviet Union Admiral Eduard Baltin at his grave, and visit Nakhimov Youth Museum Center to hand over a memorable sign.

Smolensk region is native land to many eminent mariners whose names are intimately connected with the history of Russian Navy. By the way, nuclear-powered submarine Smolensk is a pride of Northern Fleet.

Main idea of the Strong Marine Brotherhood project is to create a training fleet of the Russia-Belarus union state, educate young Belarusian seafarers and shipbuilders in Russia, establish midshipmen courses, development of training programs for united fleet.

Similar activity took place in Minsk in Nov 2011. Navy veterans of the union state celebrated the Russian Marine Day and paid honors to Russian and Belarusian marines fought shoulder to shoulder for freedom and independence.
