Trials of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Yury Dolgoruky held by Severodvinsk defense companies have reached closing phase.

"We expect Yury Dolgoruky to arrive this year", says Rear Admiral Igor Muhametshin, Northern Fleet (NF) Submarine Force Commander. "Borei project is new and breakthrough technology. The crew has been already trained, they have passed appropriate training course", he added.

As is expected, NF submarine force would have an eventful year. This is because of intensive growth in training activities and long-range cruises.

In 2011, crews of NF submarines performed eight effective test launches of ballistic missiles; four of them were held under state flight development tests of submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) Bulava. Among them was a two-missile salvo launch carried out by SSBN Yury Dolgoruky.

Upgraded subs are returning to the Navy as well. Being repaired and modernized at Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center (Severodvinsk), SSBN Voronezh has returned to permanent basing site.

Numerous submariners were awarded governmental and naval medals. On the eve of the Motherland Defenders' Day, commanding officer of a nuclear-powered submarine Capt 1 rank Alexei Dmitrov was titled the Hero of the Russian Federation. He became 30-th NF serviceman and 14-th submarine officer obtaining the Russia's highest award.
