BLACKSEAFOR Activation Kicked Off in Romania 09.04.2012

Scheduled spring activation of the BLACKSEAFOR joint naval task group started on Apr 6 in Constanta, Romania. Since Aug 2011, the international force is commanded by Russian representative – Capt 1 rank Yury Zemsky.

The BLACKSEAFOR flagship is Russian large landing ship Caesar Kunikov (Black Sea Fleet). Other participants are Bulgarian corvette Reshitelni, Romanian corvette Sebastian, Turkish frigate Yavuz, and Ukrainian seagoing minesweeper Cherkasy.

Upon the ships' arrival, commanding staff held organizational meeting to discuss administrative matters. After that, BLACKSEAFOR Commander Capt 1 rank Yury Zemsky, task force staff officers, and ship commanding officers paid courtesy visits to Romanian Navy Commander, Governor of Constanta, and the city mayor.

Commander of the task unit held a press conference on board the Russian ship.

Special communication equipment was installed in all participating ships during their stay in Constanta.

Crews of ships are passing drills in Romanian Navy's training center, including seamanship briefing and search operation drill. In addition, the unplanned activation drill held after departure from Sevastopol was summarized in Constanta.

The visit of BLACKSEAFOR ships to Constanta will last till Apr 10.
