SSBN Vladimir Monomakh Prepares for Electrification

20.04.2012 Third Project 955 Borei nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Vladimir Monomakh built in 55-th workshop of Sevmash shipyard is at high level of completeness. The sub will be supplied with electric power in the next few days, reports the yard's press service.

Connection to power supply is an important element of shipbuilding process needed to adjust all shipborne systems. Presently, the sub's hull has been fully shaped, and major units have been installed. Shipwrights are assembling power equipment, navigation and sonar systems, electric accessories, and laying cable routes. Welders and fitters of Sevmash working on Vladimir Monomakh have acquired wide experience on the first and second hulls – SSBN Yury Dolgoruky and SSBN Alexander Nevsky. Despite the crucially new equipment of the sub, Sevmash workers and contractors managed to evade many typical problems thanks to their experience and good teamwork.

The key task for the shipyard at the moment is to prepare the submarine for meeting of the crew already formed at Pacific Fleet under command of Alexander Nadezhdin.

Apart from works on SSBN Vladimir Monomakh, shipwrights of Sevmash are sweating over the next sub of upgraded Project 955A Borei-A under conditional name of Svyatitel Nikolai. The shipyard has started assembling works for the 4-th hull. Official keel-laying ceremony initially scheduled on late March was postponed at least for 2 months.
