Official handover ceremony of the first out of three Project 11356 frigates was held on Apr 27 at Yantar Shipyard (affiliate of United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC) in Kaliningrad. The up-to-date ship built for Indian Navy under name of INS Teg was developed by Severnoye Design Bureau.

"Today we have made another step in naval strategic partnership between Russia and India. With active assistance of our country, India gradually builds up-to-date and effective fleet of the 21-st century. We in USC are very glad that our traditional cooperation develops on the long-term basis and makes progress, including all new products, technologies, and joint projects", said president of United Shipbuilding Corporation Roman Trotsenko addressing the ceremony.

"Another indicator of a special status and time-proved quality of our partnership is attendance of Vice Admiral Krishnan Nair Sushil, Indian Navy's South Fleet Commander", emphasized Trotsenko.

According to the contract, Yantar Shipyard builds three frigates of this project for Indian Navy. Experts say Project 11356 is one of the most effective in its class.

JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation is the Russia's largest shipbuilding company. It was established by presidential decree in 2007; 100% shares is in federal ownership. The holding comprises over 50 companies and organizations of shipbuilding industry (largest shipyards and ship-repair plants, leading design bureaus). Presently, the corporation consolidates about 70% of national shipbuilding sector. Although the company is oriented on Russian market, it exports production to 20 countries.

JSC Yantar Shipyard (Kaliningrad, Russia) was established on July 8, 1945 on the basis of Koenigsberg shipyards F. Schichau. It is specialized in construction of light and intermediate tonnage vessels for military and civil purposes, as well as ship repair works. Through the 66-year long history, the yard has built 154 warships and over 500 civil vessels. Currently, Yantar's majority shareholder is Russian Government represented by United Shipbuilding Corporation.

Project 11356 frigate (escort ship) is designed for naval operations in sea and ocean zones against enemy's surface ships and submarines, repelling air attacks independently and within a task force.

First trio of Project 11356 frigates were built by Baltiysky Zavod shipyard (currently controlled by USC) and serve in Indian Navy.
