Participating in the Baltic SAREX 2012 joint exercise, Baltic Fleet (BF) rescue tug SB-921 commanded by Vladimir Sharipov has successfully found and rescued a "wrecked" ship's crew.

Joint task group consisting of rescue ships of Russia, Denmark, France, and Finland spent a day practicing search-and-rescue activities at sea using advanced rescue aids.

The participants focused on rescuing of people overboard and picking them up. Search and detection of the "distressed" crew was carried out by Danish patrol aircraft and then transmitted to the BF rescue tug. During the operation, Russian mariners took over 20 men aboard and demonstrated excellent teamwork and special skills.

According to BF Rescue Ship Division Deputy Commander Capt 2 rank Yan Avramenko, Russian mariners and their foreign counterparts have reached the most important result during the exercise, i.e. high mutual understanding in crew rescue organization. It was practically proved that Russian and foreign rescue facilities are compatible and effective; that opens wide prospects for cooperation.
