Caspian Flotilla (CF) task unit comprising corvette Astrakhan and seagoing tug MB-58 was deployed to the Caspian Sea on May 16.

The task unit will secure economic activities, protect navigation and oil-extracting objects of the Russian Federation in the Caspian Sea.

The crews will hold joint maneuvering drills and counter "terrorists" attacking Russian oil platforms.

Ships of the task unit will cover 1,500 nautical miles and prove their good teamwork and preparedness for combat activities.

Prior to departure, archpriest Yevgeny handed over an icon donated to the Fyodor Ushakov Church by Caspian Flotilla to commanding officer of corvette Astrakhan. Mariners will return the holy image to the church after the deployment.
