Landing Ship Caesar Kunikov Celebrated Russia Day in Med Sea 13.06.2012

Crew of Black Sea Fleet (BSF) large landing ship Caesar Kunikov recently finished the visit to Messina, Italy and celebrated the Russia Day in the Mediterranean Sea.

The festive parade of the crew, honor guard, and anti-terror group attached by BSF Marine Brigade took place on the ship's deck. Before festive meeting started, mariners sang national anthem of the Russian Federation to the accompaniment of BSF Band. The cruise commander Capt 1 Rank Alexei Komarov congratulated the servicemen on the national day. Participants of the meeting listened to the greeting telegram received from BSF Commander Rear Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov.

The ship's commanding officer awarded commendations to a number of crewmembers for excellent service.

Later on, BSF Band gave a festive concert on the deck.

Large landing ship Caesar Kunikov is expected to return to Sevastopol on June 16.

Visiting port of Messina, the crew attended memorable activities and paid honors to Russian naval mariners rescued locals of Messina during the earthquake in 1908.

Representatives of Black Sea Fleet attended opening ceremonies of the monument to Russian Sailors and a memorial plaque in Reggio di Calabria located across the Strait of Messina. BSF Band performed concerts in every town listed in the visit program.
