Project 955 Borei nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) Yury Dolgoruky will be commissioned till July 29, said Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov on June 25 addressing the graduates honoring ceremony in the Konstantinovsky Palace, St. Petersburg.

Also, Chirkov declared that missile system Bulava is technically ready to enter service; at present, documents required for legal commission of the missile are being prepared.

As was earlier reported, Bulava was supposed to enter service along with SSBN Yury Dolgoruky.

Nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Yury Dolgoruky (Project 955 Borei) was developed by Rubin Design Bureau (St. Petersburg) and is considered the lead fourth-generation sub.

SSBN Yury Dolgoruky was laid down at Sevmash shipyard on Nov 2, 1996. Being about 170 meters long, 13.5 meters wide and displacing 24,000 tons, the submarine will carry 16 Bulava missiles designed by Moscow Thermotechnics Institute.
