Today, Northern Fleet (NF) surface attack group started holding combat drills and interaction at naval ranges in the Barents Sea.

For NF Missile Ship Division, this exercise is one of the key activities in the summer training period. Main part is performed by crews of nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky and destroyer Admiral Ushakov. The personnel were assigned with missile and gun firing drills.

One of the exercise episodes was firing at surface ship silhouettes by gun mounts AK-130. Northern Fleet marines will also practice air defenses with firing drills by SAM systems Fort and Kinzhal based on cruiser Petr Veliky and SAM system Uragan based on destroyer Admiral Ushakov. Missilemen of both ships will have to destroy antiship cruise missile drones Malakhit launched by corvette Rassvet.

During the exercise, crews of cruiser Petr Veliky and destroyer Admiral Ushakov will search and engage "enemy" submarine. Among other scheduled drills are mine laying, assistance to a vessel in distress, onboard damage control at sea, and joint maneuvering.

For crews of both ships, this exercise is a good opportunity to prepare for coming large-scale maneuvers with participation of NF surface ships, submarines, aircraft, and coast defense troops.
