Norwegian offshore patrol frigate Nordkapp and American destroyer USS Farragut on Aug 27 left Russian Northern Fleet (NF) main base Severomorsk setting a course for the Barents Sea.

NF corvette Rassvet escorted the foreign ships up to the border of Russian territorial waters.

Visit of the Norwegian frigate and the US destroyer to Severomorsk lasted 2 days and closed the Northern Eagle 2012 trilateral naval exercise.

When staying in the Russian port, representatives of the foreign ships paid courtesy visits to Rear Admiral Vladimir Vorobyov, chief of NF Training Department, and Vitaly Voloshin, mayor of Severomorsk.

The guests visited the Hero City of Murmansk and took part in friendly sport competitions in volleyball and tug-of-war.

The Northern Eagle 2012 naval exercise was held in Aug 21-25 in the Norwegian and the Barents seas. It was attended by NF destroyer Admiral Chabanenko (Russian Navy), offshore patrol frigate Nordkapp (Norwegian Coast Guard), and guided missile destroyer USS Farragut (US Navy). Norwegian fighters F-16 and patrol aircraft Orion participated in some episodes, as well as Russian Su-33 and Il-38 airplanes.

Through 4 days of the active phase, the participants had practiced inspection of violator vessels, held a number of various rescue operations, and carried out firing drills by main guns and machine guns.
