In Oct 2012, Caspian Flotilla (CF) corvette Volgodonsk will practice joint navigation with CF corvette Astrakhan and hold the first gun firing after state trials in the Caspian Sea.

The crew has successfully passed qualification test which is the first stage in a ship's preparation for operational use.

All crewmembers have excellently held numerous drills preparing the ship for deployment and battle, practiced daily service activities, verified ability to maintain combat equipment and arms, and the ship's readiness to take munitions aboard and navigation.

During the training activities, the ship's repair parties held a number of damage control drills. Sailors extinguished "fire" and fothered "holes" at a special simulator imitating the corvette's compartment.

The next phase will be team-building drills at sea; the sailors will polish naval skills and hold shipboard drills.

Volgodonsk is a Buyan-class corvette designed for surface warfare both at sea and in rivers. The ship was developed by Zelenodolsk Design Bureau (Tatarstan, Russia) specially for the Caspian Sea and mouth of the Volga River. Main features of the corvette are perfect navigability and shallow draft.
