The new Project 20380 corvette Boiky built by JSC Severnaya Verf shipyard for Baltic Fleet (BF) is passing sea trials in the fleet's test ranges. The ship's crew headed by Capt 2 Rank Sergei Lipsky and the trial team are testing serviceability of onboard systems at sea. In particular, they are checking powerplant, steering system, auxiliary mechanisms, communication and navigation facilities, and anchor gear. The ship is undergoing speed, maneuvering, and vibration tests.

The trial team includes representatives of various shipyard departments and contracting organizations. Upon completion of sea trials, shipwrights will analyze results and finally outfit the ship.

Shipyard's sea trials are one of mandatory stages closing construction process of any ship. They are held in order to test onboard systems at sea and verify whether practical performance conforms to design specifications, layouts, technical descriptions, and operation manuals.

The trials will finish late in Dec 2012. The crew will begin the state acceptance trials early in 2013.

Severnaya Verf shipyard splashed the second batch-produced Project 20380 corvette Boiky on Apr 15, 2011. The ship was laid down in July 2005. Corvette Stereguschiy being handed over to Baltic Fleet in 2007 is the lead ship in the series. The first batch-produced ship of this project, corvette Soobrazitelny was commissioned into BF on Oct 14, 2011.

The corvette project was developed by Almaz Design Bureau. Such ship is used for littoral zone operations, engagement of enemy submarines and surface ships, and gun support of landing operations. Stealth technology was widely used during construction of the ships, as well as 21 patents and 14 new computer programs. Newest physical field reduction solutions were applied too. As a result, designers considerably reduced the ship's radar signature thanks to hull architecture and fire-resistant radar-absorbent fiberglasses applied in tophamper's design.
