First Russian submarine ever to visit Norway

First Russian submarine ever to visit Norway 14.09.2007 The Northern fleets submarine “Yaroslav” will next week be the first Russian submarine ever to call at a Norwegian naval base. The diesel-powered submarine will visit the main base of the Norwegian Navy at Haakonsvern on September 17th.

During the four-day visit, Russian naval officers will get acquainted with their Norwegian colleagues and Norwegian citizens in official and unofficial meetings. They will meet with the commander of the Haakonsvern base as well as the mayor or Bergen.

In October 2006, a Norwegian submarine made the first-ever visit to the main base of the Russian Northern Fleet - Severomorsk. The Utstein submarine visited the port within the framework of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian submarine forces.

Last week, the Norwegian naval vessel KNM Horten visited the Northern fleets main base in Severomorsk.
