Finland wants surveillance cooperation with Russia
04.02.2008
Finnish Minister of Defence, Jyri Hakamies, is ready to invite Russia to take part in joint marine surveillance training with Finland and Sweden.
Because of Russia’s growing marine traffic, Häkämies feels that it is more justified than ever to get Russia to join in the cooperation and exchange of information regarding marine safety. Also Estonia is included in the minister’s plans.
In the Baltic Sea gas pipeline project Häkämies does not see any "significant security-political risks" for Finland, Helsingin Sanomat reports.
