Norwegian navy monitoring the Russian fleet

24.09.2008
The two Russian ships Admiral Chabanenko and Peter the Great who are passing off the coast of Norway this week are being closely monitored by Norwegian radars.

The ship group which Russia has set off towards Venezuela, is the largest on the move since the cold war period. The group is to take part in a navy rehearsal in Venezuela.

Press Officer John Espen Lien in the commanding headquarters of Northern Norway says to NRK that they keep close surveillance of the Russian ships on radar as they move along the Norwegian coast. Lien believes that there will be more Russian navy ships coming the same way. The rehearsal is not before November, and the cruisers will need supplies and fuel for the long voyage.
