13.11.2008 A delegation with representatives of the Arkhangelsk regional administration and regional shipyards and shipping companies presented themselves to the Shtokman Development Company.
Arkhangelsk is in urgent need of showing its potentials in connection with the development of Arctic hydrocarbon fields. A heavy delegation from the region showed up in the Moscow premises of the Shtokman Development Company on 11, November.
The Arkhangelsk delegation, which was headed by Deputy Governor Dmitrii Pletnev, included representatives of the shipyards Sevmash, Zvezdochka and Severny Reyd, as well as the Arkhangelsk Commercial Sea Port and the Northern Shipping Company, Dvinainform.ru reports.
Arkhangelsk hopes to become an important supply port for the development of the Shtokman field, one of the biggest offshore fields in the world. In addition, the shipyards Sevmash and Zvezdochka, traditionally specialized in submarine construction and maintenance, hope to get oil and gas assignments.
The region is however already engaged in the growing oil and gas activities in the Arctic. Over the last months, the Port of Arkhangelsk has shown that it is able to handle shipping operations for Gazprom contractors. The port now has major growth following its engagement in the shipping of materials to the development of the Bovanenkovo field in Yamal.
The meeting with the Shtokman Development Company was requested by the Arkhangelsk administration, Dvinainform.ru reports.
