Government orders for the Zvezdochka shipbuilding factory (Severodvinsk) have not diminished in 2009 and are comparable to last year’s level, the press service of the factory announced, citing General Director Vladimir Nikitin.
Military orders make up approximately half of the orders book of the factory, according to Nikitin. He added that that was why “priority is being given to the production of warships.”
“Every sub must undergo repairs at the factory ten years after the beginning of exploitation. Unfortunately many nuclear submarines of the
Antei,
Granit, and
Bars classes have fallen out of that regime by a year. We will have to work intensively to prepare the dockyard for the repair of these nuclear subs, so that in 2010 we can begin work on them,” said Nikitin.
The Russian Navy will receive ships build at the
Zvezdochka in autumn, the general director said. In 2009, repair work on the nuclear submarine
Karelia should be completed and work on the modernization of the nuclear submarine
Novomoskovsk, the
Kaluga, and the
Voronezh should be continued.
Since its creation, the
Zvezdochka shipyards have repaired 113 submarines, including 80 nuclear subs and 40 surface ships. The
Zvezdochka has produced 223 ships, amongst them floating shops, towboats, dry cargo ships, and trawlers. The shipyards have also worked on ships of the Indian Navy. A unique complex for the scrapping of nuclear subs has been created at
Zvezdochka with the help of foreign specialists.
