The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed satisfaction with the release of the Ukrainian cargo ship Faina with Russian citizens aboard and hopes they will return home soon.

The Somali pirates left the cargo ship on Thursday, Reuters reported citing an intermediary who took part in negotiations.

“If that has indeed happened, we express satisfaction that the Russian citizens aboard that ship will soon return home,” Igor Liakin-Frolov, deputy director of the Information and Press Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Ria Novosti. The Russian Foreign Ministry took “the necessary actions within its means for the release of the Russian citizens,” said Liakin-Frolov.
