The rumors alleging that the Russian escort ship Neustrashimy experienced technical problems and that some crewmembers became sick during its mission in the Gulf of Aden is “nonsense and fantasy,” Alexei Apanovich, the commander of the ship, told journalists.

“We know that during our return, rumors surfaced that the ship experienced serious technical problems and that members of the crew became sick. And I would have loved to see the man who spread this rumors here, because all that is nonsense and fantasy,” Apanovich said.

He stressed that all crewmembers were well and that the ship returned from its mission without any breakdowns.

"Now the crew will rest and the ship will undergo preparations for the next mission. We believe that the ships of the Russian Navy must be permanent in this dangerous, as relates to piracy, region,” the officer said.

The Neustrashimy has been replaced in the Horn of Africa by the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Vinogradov.
