Neustrashimy’s crew rescue pregnant woman in open sea

09.02.2009
The crew of the Russian escort ship Neustrashimy rescued a boat in distress with a pregnant woman on board in the Gulf of Aden, Captain First Class Oleg Gurinov, the man who led the mission of the Russian ship in the horn of Africa, told a journalist on January 8.

“As we were returning to our base in Baltiysk, we received a message from a French airplane indicating that a ship was in distress in our region,” Gurinov said. “We offered help, and it turned out it was a fishing boat that had lost its propeller four days prior,” Gurinov said.

According to him, the pregnant wife of a fisherman was aboard the schooner, and the boat itself had been drifting for four days without food or water.

“We provided help to the woman, and after obtaining the permission of the command, we towed the boat for days to the port of Al Mukhalla (Yemen),” Gurinov noted.
