February 7 marked the 28th anniversary of the incident, which took place at a military airfield near the city of Leningrad.

To commemorate the tragic event, a wreath was deposited at a wall bearing the memorial plaque to Commander of the Pacific Fleet Admiral Emile Nicolaevich Spiridonov, and a funeral procession was held for those who died on February 7, 1981, during the takeoff of a military aircraft in the city of Pushkino in the Leningrad region.

The tragedy took place as the command of the Pacific Fleet was returning from an organizational-mobilization meeting of the command of the Fleet in the city of Leningrad. The aircraft with the seamen crashed during takeoff from the military airfield in the city of Pushkino. Fifty-six people died, including 16 admirals and generals.

A memorial plaque to the commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet was installed at the main gate of the headquarters of the Fleet in 2005 at the initiative of the command. A street in the capital of the Primorie region was also named after the late commander.

The command of the Pacific Fleet paid its respect to the late commander of the Fleet at 10:00. The funeral procession led by the deputy commander of the Pacific Fleet in charge of educational work, Rear Admiral Sergey Belenov, and veterans of the Fleet laid a wreath at the foot of a marble plaque with the picture of the late commander.

After the procession at the Nikolo-Bogoyavlenskiy cathedral in St. Petersburg, the members of the command of the Fleet and the families of the victims moved toward the Alley of Heroes to the memorial to the sailors of the Pacific Fleet at the Serafimovskoe cemetery to pay their respects to their relatives, colleagues and friends.
