Cadets pay tribute to Varyag, Koreets crewmembers aboard Pallada

10.02.2009
The Pallada, a floating school of the Russian Pacific Fleet, continues its regular training cruise on a Vladivostok–Pusan-Dalian route. Some 85 cadets of various naval schools in Vladivostok embarked for the journey.

A special ceremony to commemorate the 105 anniversary of the exploit of the crews of the Russian guard missile cruiser Varyag and the gunboat Koreets, as well as the anniversary of the famous Russian sailor F.F. Ushakov, was held on board the ship.

Students and crewmembers observed a minute of silence to pay their respects to the heroes, and the flag was lowered at half staff. The song Varyag was broadcast on the boat.

The Pallada has covered 1,100 nautical miles since leaving port. The cadets have practiced 14 rush jobs and other exercises, after which they all passed their required tests and are now allowed to work with sailboats.
