A team from the rescue boat Spravedlivy has yet to contain a fire that broke out in the hold of the Russian fishing boat Ekarma-7, a Sakhalin navigation official told Ria Novosti.
“The fire in the hold of the
Ekarma-7 still can’t be put out. The fire was put out Monday evening, but the rescuers discovered in the morning that the fire had started again. Packaging material continues to burn in the hold of the boat. Smoke has filled the hold,” the official told the news agency, adding that the fire had not spread into the motor room and the fuel tanks.
The official pointed out that rescuers from the
Spravedlivy the previous weekend towed the trawler to the Magadan coast, where they worked on the boat in normal weather.
“The towboat Gris should reach the
Ekarma-7 on Tuesday. It will tow the trawler to the port of Pusan. Foreign members of the
Ekarma-7 crew will likewise be taken to Pusan. They are now on the Mys Rubicon. The Russian members of the crew are on the
Ekarma-3, which is following behind the
Ekarma-7, and are scheduled to disembark at various ports in the Far East,” the official said.
The Sakhalin Transport Prosecutors’ Office is conducting an inspection in relation to the fire, an official told
Ria Novosti.
The
Ekarma-7, built in Japan in 1983, has a length of 94.5 meters and a width of 15 meters. It has a water displacement of 6,362 tonnes.
