The Yantar shipbuilding factory is increasing its workforce, despite the world financial crisis. The company hired 100 new people in January and added another 62 in the first week of February, said Sergei Mikhailov, a spokesman for the factory.
“The company is in need of highly qualified workers and engineers taking into account its construction and repair program until 2012 and the very tight schedule for the work already contracted,” Mikhailov said. To realize that plan, the company will attract another 500 workers.
The factory is now building a frigate for the Indian Navy, is completing construction of the guard vessel
Yaroslav Mudry for the Russian Baltic Fleet, is building the assault ship
Ivan Gren for the Russian Navy, and is preparing to deliver the escort ship
Sprut to the Federal Border Service. The
Yantar shipbuilding factory recently won a tender to carry out repairs of a battle ship and five auxiliary ships of the Russian Baltic Fleet for 2009.
The factory had a turnover of 8.1 billion rubles, where as a year earlier turnover stood at 2.9 billion rubles, the spokesman said.
Average monthly salary at the factory exceeds 23,000 rubles, and working personnel even earn approximately 30,000 rubles per month.
The
Yantar shipbuilding factory has built 153 military ships, some 500 civilian ones, including for foreign clients, since its creation.
