The battle training plans of the Russian Navy will take into account the presence of NATO ships in the Arctic, a high-ranking representative of the headquarters of the Russian Navy told Ria Novosti.

“This first and foremost relates to the Northern and Pacific fleets,” the official told the agency.

Nikolay Makarov, the chief of staff of the Russian Armed Forces, announced earlier that Russia will provide an “adequate” response to attempts to “militarize the Arctic.”

The source noted that the Russian military leadership would pay particular attention to the defense of the country’s national interests in the Arctic. “The main role here will be played by nuclear submarines, which are the cornerstone of the naval strategic nuclear force of the country,” the official added.

In addition, the Russian Navy will also constantly keep a close eye on practical sea regions. “Along the entire Russian northern border,” he stressed.
