The large antisubmarine ship of the Russian Pacific Fleet will begin patrolling the Gulf of Aden in April to help fight piracy, a source in the headquarters of the Pacific Fleet told Ria Novosti.
According to the source, the
Admiral Panteleyev will take the baton from the destroyer
Admiral Vinogradov, which will soon complete its mission around the Somali coast and return to its home base after friendly visits in China and Indonesia.
The Pacific Fleet will, therefore, continue this year to patrol the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea, offering protection to civilian cargo ships. The mission was begun in 2008 by the Baltic Fleet with its escort ship
Neustrashimy, which return to base last February, the source added.
The
Admiral Vinogradov replaced the
Neustrashimy in the Gulf of Aden on January 11, 2009.

Admiral Panteleyev is a Project 1155 large antisubmarine ship, as the
Admiral Vinogradov.
Construction of the ship began in 1987 at the
Yantar shipyards, and it was launched in 1988. She joined the Pacific Fleet on May 1, 1992. She has a cruising speed of 29.5 knots, and a crew of 293. She has a water displacement of 7,480 tonnes, a length of 163 meters, a width of 19 meters, and a height of 7.8 meters. She is armed with 8
Rastrub missile-torpedoes, 8 launching pads for the
