Acting Governor Dmitriyenko visited Northern Fleet 27.03.2009
One of the first things Dmitry Dmitriyenko did as acting Governor of Murmansk Oblast was to visit the Northern Fleet's flagship the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Petr Veliky.

A few days ago Dmitriyenko and State Duma member Rostislav Goldshteyn from United Russia met with Northern Fleet Commander Nikolay Maksimov onboard the vessel, Komiinform.ru reports.

In the meeting with Rear Admiral Maksimov Mr. Dmitiyenko promised to show attention to the problem of housing for personnel being transferred to the reserve.

Dmitriyenko has served several years in the Northern Fleet. He graduated from the Lenin Komsomol Higher Naval Submarine School in 1985 with a specialization in vessel armament, and served in submarine units in the Northern and Pacific Fleets in the period 1980-1992. He is registered as a citizen of Severomorsk.

According to Wikipedia Pyotr Veliky is a Kirov class battle cruiser that was taken into service in the Northern Fleet in 1998. Excluding aircraft carriers, Kirov class ships are the largest combat surface ships in the world. The 250 meters long vessel has a crew of 655 men and its main armament can consist of 20 SS-N-19 missiles.
